Safer Business Action Week – working together to keep businesses safe

Businesses play a vital role in creating vibrant, welcoming and safe communities. From our high streets and town centres to local retail parks and business communities, the people who work in and run businesses are often at the heart of the places we live, work and visit.

That’s why Police CPI is proud to support the fifth Safer Business Action Week, which commences on Monday 9 November 2026. This serves as an opportunity to highlight the importance of partnership working, as well as the practical steps we can all take to prevent crime and reduce harm. Ultimately, this will help to create safer environments for businesses, staff and customers.

Safety is a shared responsibility

Keeping businesses safe is not something that can be achieved by one organisation alone.

Effective crime prevention relies on businesses, police forces, Business Crime Reduction Partnerships, local authorities and other community partners working together, sharing information and taking action.

For businesses, this can mean reporting incidents, sharing intelligence, working with neighbouring businesses, reviewing security measures and ensuring staff know what to do when an incident occurs.

For policing and partners, it means listening to businesses, understanding the challenges they face and working collaboratively to identify practical solutions.

Safer Business Action Week provides an opportunity to strengthen those relationships and remind businesses that they don’t have to tackle these challenges alone.

Putting our values into action

Supporting safer businesses also reflects the values that underpin the work of Police CPI.

Excellence means continually striving to improve the standards of crime prevention and business safety, sharing good practice and supporting efforts that make a meaningful difference.

Professionalism is demonstrated through the way we work with businesses and partners – providing expertise, acting responsibly and maintaining high standards in everything we do.

Integrity is fundamental to effective partnership working. Businesses need to know that information is handled responsibly, that concerns are taken seriously and that we do what we say we will do.

Respect means recognising the experiences and concerns of businesses, their employees and customers. Every business is different, and effective prevention starts with understanding those individual needs.

Innovation encourages us to look for new and better ways to prevent crime, share information and respond to emerging challenges. The nature of business crime continues to evolve, and our approach must evolve with it.

And perhaps most importantly, collaboration sits at the heart of Safer Business Action Week. When businesses, policing and partners work together, we can share knowledge, identify patterns and take coordinated action to improve safety.

Small actions can make a difference

Safer Business Action Week isn’t just about what happens during one week – it’s about encouraging conversations and actions that can continue throughout the year.

Whether it’s reporting an incident that might otherwise go unreported, sharing information with other businesses, reviewing security arrangements or simply starting a conversation with local partners, every action can contribute to a safer business environment.

We want businesses to feel confident about taking those steps and, importantly, confident about asking for support when they need it.

Working together for safer communities

Businesses are an essential part of our communities. When people feel safe at work, when customers feel confident visiting local businesses and when businesses have strong relationships with their local partners, everyone benefits.

Safer Business Action Week is an opportunity to celebrate that collaborative approach and encourage even more businesses to get involved. At Police CPI, we are committed to working with businesses and partners to build safer, stronger communities for everyone.
